Serena Self

Born in Thornton Heath, London

Lives & Studies in Chichester, West Sussex

I am a graduating BA (hons) Fine Art Student at the University of Chichester. My work focuses on the human body and how it can be portrayed, Some of my main inspiration came from artists such as, Clare Woods, Bill Brandt and Gary Humes.

Through my art work I start to explore the body through the use of black and white imagery. As a starting source they help me develop a geometric abstraction of the shapes within the image and paint them in a way that is not to be seen as a body part. I also use bright and contrasting colours to make the paintings stand out. Making the audience engage a little more into my work and try to come up with their own answers to what they are looking at.
